About Us

Steelformers is an independent roofing manufacturer and is 100% locally owned and operated by the Back Family. Steelformers is Taranaki and Whanganui’s largest manufacturer of roofing and wall cladding products.

The company was founded in Stratford in 1983 by Darrell Back, who had a 10 year background in rollforming with Popes of Stratford. Steelformers has continued to grow throughout the years, investing in new equipment to ensure customers only need one choice for roofing and rainwater products.

The main manufacturing plant in Stratford is purpose built and capable of producing all roofing profiles and colour options in continuous lengths up to 25 metres. A Baby Corrugate rollformer, Ali Edge Ridging machine, Corrugate Curving machine and an eight metre computerised folder complement the impressive factory and Head Office in Stratford.

The New Plymouth factory offers a full range of products where anything unable to be manufactured is trucked through to the factory from Stratford at no additional cost to the customer. New Plymouth primarily focuses on the manufacturing of Continuous Spouting, Custom Cut Ceiling Batten products, ZINCALUME® Corrugate and a full range of folded flashings up to 6 metres in length including COLORSTEEL®, ZINCALUME®, GALVSTEEL® and Aluminium products.

Whanganui Steelformers also offers a full range of products where anything unable to be manufactured is trucked down to the factory from Stratford at no additional cost to the customer. Whanganui manufactures Ribline in ZINCALUME® and GALVSTEEL®, Corrugate in GALVSTEEL®, Ali Edge Ridging and a full range of flashings up to 6 metres in length including COLORSTEEL®, ZINCALUME®, GALVSTEEL® and Aluminium.

King Country Longrun works in close association with Whanganui Steelformers, and like all branches, King Country Longrun can offer a full range of products utilising the transportation infrastructure Steelformers has to offer. King Country Longrun can manufacture Corrugate in GALVSTEEL® and a full range of flashings up to 6 metres in length including COLORSTEEL®, ZINCALUME® and GALVSTEEL®.

With three articulated truck and trailers with hiabs, one rigid crane truck, half a dozen utes and some flat-deck trailers, Steelformers can get your products onsite as quickly as possible. A maximum length of 18 metres can be carried, but transportation of longer lengths can be arranged.
